11/5/2013 - I'm still alive!

Sorry for not posting guys... been kinda busy lately.

Anyway, what I've been doing for the past few days is trying to develop a competitive Zero-G counter to Dragooon F230CF/GCF. So far, hasn't gone well. Left-spin stamina can't beat it, Left-spin sway attack can't beat it, and nothing right-spin without F230 can beat it (yet). I'm in a fix here...

The one thing I had success with was Scythe... the free-spinning PC frame on the top actually prevented Dragooon from stealing spin at lower spin velocity for the most part, and Scythe B : D actually went 8-0 against it. I then tried several other stamina setups, and, although I didn't believe it at first, TB on SA165 did extremely well, avoiding spin-equalization near the end and then circling Dragooon after it had toppled, and barely out-spinning. It worked even better with 160!

However, disappointment was right around the corner... I take apart my orange F230s and give them a rinse to make up for the abusive testing I had been shoving on them for the last week. After that, Scythe didn't stand a chance. If your F230 isn't as free as a bearing, then Scythe B : D/160TB will actually work quite well. However, the F230 I'm concerned with beating next weekend is no regular old F230, so I've gotta find something new...

Well, thanks for reading guys! DRAGOOON F230 MUST GO DOWN!

10/31/2013 - MSF-H Killerken Killerekn BD145MB testing

Well, here we go.

I am very pleased with this combo. All the weight and rotational momentum really helps it hold its spin velocity against stamina types, as well as producing a grinding effect of sorts. It went 60% against Duo 230D today, 50% against Duo 160PD, and 60% against Duo W145WD. This is great... it really doesn't have a very high spin time at all, but its sheer weight and force really help it maintain its spin in the stadium.

The thing destroys Flash. I know not why, but it takes Flash attackers to school! It actually did do quite decent against Wyvang. It obviously lost, but it didn't do too much worse than Revizer Revizer BD145RSF, and needless to say Defense is no problem for this custom. This extra boost in defense, while it may not be enough to take down heavy attackers most of the time, will provide an advantage against some not-so heavy hitting combos people use (IE Girago BD145RF, Wyvang BD145RSF, Flash W145MF...). I think this has loads of potential... I may be posting it soon when I get some more testing.

Thanks for reading!

Random stuff...

I didn't do much testing since the last post, but I tried a couple things so I guess I'll go ahead and post about them.

The first thing I did was I sat down and thought about what would happen if I put a bulky synchrome  on a heavy setup, and tried it against a stamina type. My first though went to the classic MF-H Basalt Aquario BD145MB. Anywho, I was looking for a synchrom that would imitate Basalt. A tad bit of aggression, a decent ammount of stamina, and a thick, solid structure. My mind immediately went to, obviously, Reviser. Didn't work to well. Not enough punch in it. Basalt, back when it was used, was able to deliver a little bit of a jolt or grind against other stamina types (Hence Basalt R145RF KOing the stamina meta of the time). I didn't get this with Revizer. Genbull, too round and thin. Wyvang, not enough stamina. Saramanda? Well, I actually thought about this one, and I guess it might actually work pretty well, but my brain was yelling KILLERKEN!

Anyway, I went with Killerken Killerken BD145MB. Much better. Actually KOed Duo W145WD a couple times, and out-spun 50-60% of the time. I would imagine it having far superior defense in any case. BD145MB has (or was once supposed to have) a certain defensive synergy with Basalt. If this is true with Killerken (which I actually kind of doubt, the attackers today being heavy-hitting anough to hit 80% against competitive defense), it would be quite the balance custom. I'm quite interested in this thing, and I'll probably try it out a few times more over this next week, and I may have some commentary on attack testing in a couple days. I think it may have potential.

The second thing I did was something I've been thinking about for a while... E230 spin-equalization. I mean, it's mind-destroying to watch E230's incredible Life After Death every time I do testing with Girago Genbull E230MB, and not try to make some kind of spin stealer out of it. Well, I tried. WD, fail. EWD, no way. BWD... *facepalm.* Then I got to something weird... TB. Twin ball has an unbelievable ability to precess at the end of a match for an incredibly long period of time. It's hilarious how smoothly this thing can just wobble around. A loss of balance at the end of a match for TB doesn't mean much. Anyway, similar to the idea of MSF-L Girago Dragooon SA165EWD (attack mode), TB lined up almost perfectly with E230's edge, so that when the Beyblade reached a certain elevation, E230 just took over. Unfortunately, by the time this kicked in MF-H Duo Cancer E230TB was just at too steep an angle to steal spin efficiently. It can actually do decently against some things, but SA165EWD /BWD/W145WD/EWD is a better option in just about every way IMO.

So yah... this basically shuts down the idea of E230 spin-steal for me. I think this Killerken thing might work really well, but I still need to try it out a bit more. Thanks for reading!

10/29/2013 - More Phantom testing

Hello Bladers!

Today I began with more testing on Phantom Cancer SA165EWD against some taller heights. It did pretty decent. Not great, not bad, just decent. It went about 50-50 with Duo 230D, which is actually quite impressive seeing as my Duo usually wrecks my Phantoms (well, it doesn't totally wreck them, but it'll still win 9/10 times for the most part). But yah. I'm quite exited about this combo! I think it definitely has the makings of a competitive stamina custom.

Next thing I've got... and this one's gonna blow your mind... Phantom Cancer SR200TB. The. Thing. Is. A. Boss. This combo went to town on whatever I put it up against! I can't believe it did so well... like, this thing leaves Duo SR200TB coughing in the dust. 80% against Duo 230D, and 100% against 145-height stamina. It can precess mind-bogglingly smoothly for nearly twice as long as Duo near the end of a match, and overall it's just so much more efficient on the setup. Obviously it's gonna get trashed by Attack, but this custom is one heck of a stamina type in my book after what I saw today. If we've got Duo SR200TB for top-tier, then IMO this needs to go right up there ASAP.

Third thing, and this is a little long... I decided to do some MF comparisons for competitive stamina types. I've always heard different people saying different things about different metal faces on different customs, and needless to say what I heard was quite inconsistent. So, I set about testing it myself.

The "control" beyblade I used to compare everything against was Death Aquario AD145WD. I wanted something that was OK so that the wins would be prominent enough so that I could actually compare the Stamin types, rather than having top-tier Stamina against top-tier Stamina (tie after tie after tie after tie...), or having something that would be utterly obliterated by everything. Basically it was easier to see which was best against something that wasn't amazing or horrible, but in between.

Anyway, I did one D-series setup for Phantom and Duo, and one B-series setup for each as well. I would assume that the results would be very similar, if not exactly identical, to other D/B series setups since they behave the same for the most part. I did a few rounds of testing for each, always launching the control beyblade second.

Duo Cancer W145WD:

Normal Face:  Obviously did very well. Smooth precession, low recoil (duh, it's Duo), and an overall competitive performance.

MF-H:  Er... not very good at all. Actually lost on a couple occasions, and the times it won were never by much at all. Seriously noticeable how much worse this is than a normal face.

MF-M:  Eh... pretty darn awful. Not quite as bad as MF-H, but definitely still worse than Normal Face.

MF-L:  Quite impressive, actually. Hard to define whether or not it was any worse than a Normal face, but I would say a Normal face is ever so slightly better.

Conclusion:  NF>MF-L>MF-M>MF-H

Duo Cancer SR200TB:

Normal Face:  Pretty good. Nice precession, overall clean performance.

MF-H:  Eh... not too great. Unfortunately this proved a bit ineffective. The precession was much shorter and more wobbly, and overall it didn't do too great.

MF-M:  Oh my goodness... terrible. I know some people like this, but I just got absolutely nothing out of it.

MF-L:  There we go... that's some great stamina! Noticeably better than a normal face, far better than either of the other two options. This is the way to go with Duo SR200TB.

Conclusion:  MF-L>NF>MF-H>MF-M

Phantom Cancer W145WD:

Normal Face:  Pretty good. Definitely a decent option with this custom. Average performance.

MF-H:  Kinda, sorta, well, not good at all. The combo just lost a ton of its pure stamina when I switched up to a Metal-Face-Heavy. I would not reccomend using MF-H on any Phantom stamina custom.

MF-M:  Not as bad as MF-H, but still couldn't come very close to a Normal Face. Wobbled a bit early.

MF-L:  BOOM! That's what I'm talkin' about! Very, very noticeable increase in stamina. Spun 3 or 4 times as long after the match was over compared to a Normal Face. Miles ahead of all the other Faces I tried.

Conclusion:  MF-L>NF>MF-M>MF-H

Phantom Cancer SR200TB:

Normal Face:  Unbelievable... just amazing. Stunning performance compared to the other variants of MF.

MF-H:  Er, yah, no. Not up to the standard IMO. Just didn't have the endurance or smooth precession that a Normal Face had.

MF-M:  *Throws up* No, no, no, no, NO. I can't stress how much worse this was compared to Normal Face. This was literally like a full minute difference in spin time if I were to estimate. Never use this face on Phantom SR200.

MF-L: Quite refreshing after watching MF-M. Not quite up there with the Normal Face, but still certainly impressive.

Conclusion:  NF>MF-L>MF-H>MF-M

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Overall, on most stamina types, MF-H and MF-M are a bad idea IMO. I know some people like them on MB, but, that being balance, you're not going for endurance necessarily. I would see which of MF-L and Normal Face you like on your Stamina, and then go from there.

10/28/2013 - Phantom Testing, Begirados Gryph Trial, and a Few Other Random Things

Hey guys!

Today I was getting down to trying out Phantom on a few customs. Phantom SA165EWD has been discussed for a while now, so I decided to see what it could do. I put it up against a few customs, and it actually stomped Duo Cancer W145WD to my surprise. It was also able to got 9-1 against Revizer Dragooon SA165EWD (go figure)! I tried it against these two a few times, and I must say I'm impressed at this thing's stamina so far. Haven't tested it much but I'm looking forward to trying it out more against some taller heights. I think it could definitely have some potential, and I actually noticed its recoil wasn't as bad as some other Phantom combos I've tried. Phantom 230 was removed from the tier list due to its horrendous recoil, so as long as that can be kept in check (which I think would be relatively easy) I think this could certainly be used competitively.

After this, I went into testing Cake's Defense custom Phantom Cancer 85RB. I didn't use a metal face, just because I was too lazy to fish one out and take it apart again, but it was still kicking some bey from what I saw. The thing pretty much stomped on Flash, going something like 14-1, and it didn't seem to have much trouble with Wyvang either. Honestly, I think this thing has far superior balance to Ingulit's Scythe Uranus 85RS. It doesn't have the pure defense Scythe can pull off, but it definitely has less risk of being out-spun by an attacker in a tournament situation. It all comes down to preference when choosing between the two, and IMO right now Scythe would be my pick, but Phantom can definitely put up a fight against most of the competitive attackers we have at the moment (didn't think I'd ever say that, LOL).

Anywho, on to some Begirados Gryph testing... I'm honestly still very, very impressed with Gryph Begirados 105RF. I know is a bit low, but it is still wrecking competitive BD145 defenders of both spin directions for me, and obviously destroying the entire stamina game. However, I was thinking of trying to apply this setup on a height that some other players might prefer. Meow! really loved this combo when I first posted it, because he said that he had never gotten decent smash out of Begirados on CH120+ heights... he was absolutely right. I couldn't get a very impressive performance out of this synchrom on anthing taller than 120 (it wasn't bad necessarily, but nothing really impressive), so I kept going up. 120, 125, 130, 145, 160, and 165 really didn't do much for me. Then I got to TH170. Still nothing. Then I had a though... Bahamdia Ifraid SA165R2F has the bottom chrome wheel protruding, and that thing is pretty decent. What If I flipped the Synchrom over?

BANG!  Revizer Revizer BD145RSF hits the floor! I got some pretty nice smash out of this one, and I really like it a lot, for one particular reason... on TH170, all you have to do against Duo defenders is climb up to 220, and drill them into the ground. It really works quite well as a force smash combo at 220 height (and sometimes 195 against really short customs), which totally eliminates the risk against Duo Defense. It didn't do nearly as well against E230 as you would think, though. It loses most of its raw Smash Attack when you jack its height up 5 milimeters. Nonetheless, I got some really great smash out of this thing, and it's really fun to use. Unfortunately, this Synchrom failed on 145 and below. I didn't get quite as good results on SA165. It's still sorta viable, but Begirados Gryph TH170R2F is the way to go with this Synchrom if you have the parts IMO.

One random thing I tried was Duo F230MB. I heard Gahooleone mention it as interesting the other day, but it really didn't do so well for me. In a nutshell its stamina wasn't the greatest, and Duo 230MB did just about everything better.

The last thing I tested was a force smash custom. I've always known Ifraid had serious force smash, but I had never gotten down to really testing it on different tracks. I started out with Ifraid Ifraid F230RB (having just finished testing with F230MB I thought I should just try it out) against Phantom Cancer W145WD, and it didn't do too bad, but the little "fins" on the bottom of F230 were keeping some things from getting underneath. I then switched to MB to see if it would make a difference. It did, in a really bad way. The recoil was awful, and the thing was KOed like 3 times. Same thing with 230. Seeing as RB had kept the recoil in check when using F230, I tried 230RB and added a Metal Face Heavy. It did OK, but not phenomenal. I decided to try something else to tame the recoil - E230. It worked pretty great with E230 in its "lower mode," and it took Cancer down with no problem. Thinking of Gryph Gryph E230BSF, I tried Blade Semi-Flat. It went back down to OK, so I decided to stop with MB.

The final product I had was MSF-H Ifraid Ifraid E230MB. The thing is pretty darn scary when you get down on shorter combos, and it actually made a couple indentations on my Phantom. I have yet to test it against Duo, but, since Duo usually dies hard against force smash I would expect it to win easily.

Well, that's all for today! Thanks for reading!

10/28/2013 - Welcome!

Hey guys! Welcome to my Beyblading blog! I'll be posting at least once a week (probably way, way, way more than that), and you can come here to read long, rambling posts about whatever I happened to pick up and launch! I'll be talking about random stuff while I test random things, and give my opinion on certain parts and all that mumbo jumbo and whatnot.
